Auditions

The Colonial Players, Inc. is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer community theater with an open casting policy. All auditions are open to the public and no roles are pre-cast. All roles are non-paying. Auditions are held in our Annex at 2132 Renard Court (off General’s Highway near the Annapolis Mall) unless otherwise noted. All performances are held at 108 East Street, just off State Circle, in historic Annapolis. The Colonial Players welcomes actors and other volunteers of all backgrounds and skill levels.

The Colonial Players, Inc. always welcomes new members! The fee for our Adult Annual Membership is $10 per year. First time volunteers receive a complimentary membership, valid through the end of the current membership year. GENERAL INFO

• For every show that has cast/staff members under the age of 18, all show cast and staff will be required to sign an acknowledgement that they have read and understand the Colonial Players Child Protection Policy.
  
• Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8pm; Sunday matinees at 2pm. Call times are usually 1 hour before curtain.

AUDITION INFORMATION

• Sign-in on each audition day will be during the half hour prior to the listed start time. Auditions start promptly at the listed time. If you must arrive later than the audition start, please advise the Director, Shannon Benil, in advance by email: This email address is being protected from spambots. • For efficiency, please download and complete the “Actor Audition Form”. Please bring it to the auditions along with your resume or list of experiences, and a recent headshot or photo. If you do not have a photo, one will be taken at sign-in. Audition forms will also be available in the audition room - please arrive a half-hour early if you do not have a form filled out in advance.
• Please provide a schedule of conflicts from February 15, 2025 – May 17, 2025. Please be aware that performance conflicts will preclude you being cast.
• Rehearsals will begin mid-February and are held at the CP Annex at 2132 Renard Court unless otherwise noted.
• Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

SHOW SYNOPSIS

BUMP is a heartfelt, comedic exploration of pregnancy, invention, and human connection across generations. It interweaves stories of expectant mothers, inventive solutions, and online community support, revealing the humor and vulnerability of bringing life into the world. Bump is loosely based on the story of Jorge Odón, a car mechanic from Argentina, who saw a YouTube video about extracting a cork from inside an empty wine bottle and conceived of using the same technique to deliver a baby.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Casting 12 performers (10F, 2M). All roles are open. Descriptions are of character appearance and temperament, not age of actors.

Main Characters:

• CLAUDIA — (Female, approx. 20s-30s) A young woman pregnant with her first baby. 
• LUIS — (Hispanic Male 50s-60s) Claudia’s father, an auto mechanic.
• MARIA  — (Female, approx. 50-60s) Claudia’s mother. 
• MARY — (Female) A young expectant mother in New England, 1790.
• MIDWIFE — (Female) A very experienced and knowledgeable midwife in 1790. 
• YOUTUBE GUY  — (Male) A DIY enthusiast with precise comedic timing.
